PTK Achieves ISO 50001 Certification, Strengthening Fleet Reliability, Efficiency, and Operational Sustainability through Energy Management Transformation

Jakarta - PT Pertamina Trans Kontinental (PTK) has once again recorded a strategic milestone by achieving ISO 50001 Energy Management System (EnMS) Certification for both office and vessel operations, following a comprehensive implementation process throughout 2025 and culminating in certification in the first quarter of 2026. The certification award, which was integrated with an Energy Management System upskilling program, was held on Friday, 23 January 2026, at PTK Head Office in Jakarta. The event was attended by the Board of Directors of PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) as the parent company of the Integrated Marine Logistics Subholding (SH IML), the Board of Directors of PTK, and representatives of the certification body. This achievement marks PTK as the first entity within SH IML to successfully obtain ISO 50001 Certification with a 100 percent program completion rate, covering gap analysis, finalization of the energy policy, training, internal audits, and external audits.
ISO 50001 Certification represents a significant milestone in PTK’s energy management transformation, particularly in supporting the reliability, efficiency, and sustainability of fleet operations. The Energy Management System was implemented in a structured manner through the establishment of an energy baseline, monitoring of Energy Performance Indicators (EnPI), identification of Significant Energy Use, and the execution of internal audits that recorded zero major findings, ten minor findings, and nineteen positive findings. These processes ensure that energy management across onshore facilities and vessels is conducted in a measurable, systematic, and sustainable way, thereby enhancing operational safety, service continuity, and cost efficiency for both the company and its clients.
Director of Risk Management at PT Pertamina International Shipping, Eka Suhendra, stated that the implementation of ISO 50001 at PTK is a strategic step in strengthening the business resilience of the Integrated Marine Logistics Subholding. “An internationally standardized Energy Management System not only improves energy consumption efficiency, but also enhances fleet reliability, reduces operational risks, and strengthens compliance with regulations and global best practices. This demonstrates that transformation within SH IML goes hand in hand with a strong commitment to sustainability and excellent governance,” he said.
In line with this, President Director of PT Pertamina Trans Kontinental, I Ketut Laba, emphasized that the successful attainment of ISO 50001 Certification is the result of the collective commitment of all PTK personnel in building a culture of energy efficiency and safety. “For us, energy management is not merely about cost savings, but about ensuring that vessels operate reliably, safely, and sustainably. The implementation of ISO 50001 strengthens our system in managing energy performance, making our services to clients more reliable, efficient, and aligned with international standards,” he stated.
From a business perspective, the implementation of an ISO 50001–based Energy Management System provides significant added value for PTK’s clients and prospective clients. Improved energy efficiency and controlled operational performance have a direct impact on enhanced vessel reliability, reduced risk of operational disruptions, and optimized energy costs across the fleet and onshore facilities. This delivers higher service assurance, supports the smooth operation of the national energy supply chain, and strengthens partner confidence in the quality of PTK’s maritime services, which operate in accordance with global safety and sustainability standards.
CEO of KRQA-SQC Certification Services, Dr. Ir. Karolus Karni Lando, MBA, expressed his appreciation for PTK’s commitment to adopting international energy management standards. “The ISO 50001 Certification achieved by PTK reflects the maturity of its management system and the company’s leadership in managing energy systematically, with a risk-based approach and a focus on continuous improvement. This implementation not only enhances operational efficiency and reliability, but also strengthens PTK’s global competitiveness and makes a tangible contribution to the sustainability agenda of the maritime industry,” he explained.
More broadly, the implementation of ISO 50001 contributes significantly to sustainability and environmental protection efforts through more efficient and measurable energy management, resulting in reduced emissions and optimized energy consumption. With an integrated system spanning both office operations and fleet activities, PTK is able to monitor energy performance comprehensively, control operational risks, and drive continuous improvement through periodic audits and strengthened human capital competencies. The upskilling program accompanying the certification ensures that all PTK personnel possess the knowledge, skills, and awareness aligned with global standards in energy management and operational safety.
As the first entity within the Integrated Marine Logistics Subholding to achieve ISO 50001 Certification, PTK further solidifies its position as a role model for Energy Management System implementation in the national maritime services sector. This achievement underscores PTK’s commitment to consistently delivering reliable, efficient, and sustainable services to customers, while supporting the development of a globally competitive maritime logistics ecosystem focused on fleet reliability, national energy resilience, and the creation of long-term value for society.
