PTK Enhances Fleet Reliability and Operational Efficiency Through the 2025 Coating Collage Program

PT Pertamina Trans Kontinental (PTK) continues to strengthen its fleet maintenance quality through the implementation of the Coating Collage Program, a competency development initiative focused on mastering vessel coating and painting processes. This training serves as an essential component of the company’s strategy to maintain fleet reliability, extend vessel technical life, and improve operational cost efficiency in line with the increasing complexity and high standards of maritime services.

The training, held at PTK’s Head Office, was attended by Technical Superintendents, Technical Supervisors, and Marine Supervisors — the three key functions directly responsible for inspection, maintenance, and technical oversight of vessels. In collaboration with PT International Paint Indonesia as the training provider, participants received in-depth materials covering Basic Corrosion, Surface Preparation & Inspection, coating application techniques, equipment usage, and accurate material consumption calculation. The training was delivered interactively through technical presentations and field-based case studies aligned with marine coating industry standards.

The Coating Collage implementation fulfills the company’s commitment under PTK’s Ship Paint Procurement Agreement, Annex B Article 2, which requires at least one annual training session for shore-based personnel. However, beyond meeting contractual obligations, this training is a strategic necessity to ensure that every PTK vessel receives optimal maintenance to withstand corrosion, minimize damage risks, and support the smooth operations of the company’s maritime services. The better the maintenance quality, the stronger PTK’s contribution to maintaining the stability of the national energy supply chain.

PTK Operations Director, Yudi Wibisono, emphasized that strengthening technical competencies is a critical foundation for ensuring PTK’s service reliability. “Vessel maintenance is not just a technical activity — it is a long-term investment for PTK. Through Coating Collage, we ensure that our technical officers understand best practices in coating processes and corrosion prevention. With proper maintenance, we can extend vessel life, improve operational efficiency, and, most importantly, maintain workplace safety,” he said. He stressed that employee competency is a strategic element in facing future maritime industry challenges.

Echoing this message, PTK VP Marine Fleet, Dwi Wahju Prasetyo, stated that the training plays a significant role in aligning maintenance standards across PTK’s entire fleet. “A proper coating process determines the long-term structural quality of a vessel. Through this training, we want to ensure that all PTK vessels remain in optimal condition and ready to support customer operational needs. This aligns with PTK’s commitment to delivering services that are safe, reliable, and highly competitive,” he explained. He also noted that collaboration with industry partners such as PT International Paint Indonesia will continue to enrich PTK workers’ technical capabilities.

The Coating Collage program not only enhances technical skills but also strengthens a work culture centered on preventive maintenance and risk control. With comprehensive knowledge of corrosion types, surface inspection techniques, and appropriate material selection, employees are better equipped to make effective decisions when planning vessel maintenance. This directly contributes to cost efficiency, improved service reliability, and reduced potential operational disruptions that could impact the national energy supply chain.

Through this program, PT Pertamina Trans Kontinental reaffirms its position as a national maritime company committed to professionalism, safety, and sustainability in every aspect of its operations. By strengthening employees’ technical competencies, PTK not only improves fleet quality but also delivers added value to society, stakeholders, and the Indonesian maritime sector as a whole.
